You are excited. You want to publish a book. You share your dream with some friends. Even before you can say more, one of them just blurts out and says, "But didn't you notice that most published authors have a PhD to their names? What makes you think you can do better than them?" You feel pouring rain over your head.
You know that you have a serious weight problem. You have done some research and intend to stick to some proven diet and exercise plan. When a colleague asks you out for a buffet meal, you politely decline and inform her that you are on a diet plan. She almost laughs her head off and says, "You going on diet? I bet my last dollar that you can even lose 5 pounds!"
There goes your dream. There are always dream squashers amongst us. Some may mean well as they may have doubts in your dream and wish to caution you against unnecessary risk. Then again, who knows your dream better than yourself? Some may feel uncomfortable as your change in circumstances will mean a change in your relationship with them. You may have less time and less resources for them. Some may be envious of you as they wish that they can be like you, to pursue your dream, yet they are not able to owing to many reasons. Since they cannot live their dreams, they try to dissuade you from achieving yours.
When you first hold your dream in your hand, hold it tight and keep it a secret. Unless you are very sure that those whom you share with will support you. It is not helpful to have naysayers at this stage. You need to conserve energy and focus on your dream and not to fight negativity, doubt your dream or doubt yourself. Do the necessary groundwork. Make plans. Take baby steps. Expect roadblocks. Press on. As you are more sure of your dream, that you will give all you have to achieve your dream against all odds, that any naysayers will not be able to influence you, then you may let the cat out of the bag.
So, if you are tempted to share your dream, do remember that there are dream squashers around. Protect your dream, keep it safe. Better to be safe than sorry.

It's too bad they don't spend more time dream building for themselvesProbably it's easier to squelch than to build...Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Appreciate.
